Failed Systems

Everyone fails, in every kind of shape, form or way. We think they are useless and we try to avoid them as much as possible. But what if we could change mistakes into something useful, into something that could be better than the original intention? Throughout this project I was interested in the phenomenon of failures, especially if mistakes can reveal the invisible system or structure behind a certain image. This book contains an arranged selection of different experiments about text, numbers, shapes and pixels. Every language has his own specific systems and needs rules so we are able to understand each other. Also digital images are composed within a specific structure based on numbers, shapes or pixels. But what happens if we don’t follow those defined rules? What if the system fails? Failures take us beyond assumptions and what we think we know of the world, they let us stumble to unexpected new fields and images.
